Joss Whedon says bye to "Batgirl"

23 Feb – Joss Whedon has officially exited the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as he will no longer direct and write "Batgirl".
Whedon, who previously reshot additional scenes for "Justice League", revealed that his decision to step down from DCEU's second female superhero project was because of him realising he didn't have a story to write for the titular character.
""Batgirl" is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realise I really didn't have a story," he said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie was first announced in March 2017 with Whedon attached to write and direct.
His story was supposed to have focused on Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon, and her first appearance as the titular superhero in DC Comics' "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!", published in 1967.
This announcement will have "Batgirl" come to a halt and may delay its release as there has not been a replacement for Whedon, though Tracking Board is reporting that Warner Bros. and the studio's DCEU producer Walter Hamada are now planning to hire a female director for the project.
"Batgirl" was originally planned for release in 2019.
