National swimmer Joseph Schooling has been named ONE Championship’s ambassador, the mixed martial arts promoter announced on Thursday (9 May).

The partnership will see Singapore’s first Olympic gold medallist supporting his favourite ONE Championship athletes on social media or in person.

Schooling was recently also appointed an ambassador for fashion label Hugo Boss as well as for DBS Bank, as local brands seek to leverage on his celebrity status after his historic Olympic victory.

The 22-year-old was only able to sign the deals recently after he swam his last collegiate race in March at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently a final year business student. University sports rules in the United States do not allow commercial sponsorships.

“Partnering with ONE Championship represents exciting times,” said Schooling in ONE Championship’s press release. “I have always had a great time at their events, so as Ambassador of ONE Championship, I am looking forward to sharing the positive values of ONE Championship with everyone.”

Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, said: “[Joseph] is the perfect example of how, with hard work and dedication, we can achieve many great things.”

Schooling will launch a limited edition capsule collection with Hugo Boss on 25 May at the BOSS store in Marina Bay Sands. Some 15 per cent of the proceeds from the collection will benefit the Schooling Sports Academy, which supports local aspiring athletes.
