Jon Voight urges followers to 'fight for Trump's victory' calling Joe Biden's victory 'a lie'

Actor Jon Voight has thrown his weight of support behind Donald Trump in a new video in which he calls the recent election of Joe Biden ‘a lie’.

“My fellow Americans,” Voight says in a video shared on his official Twitter account, “I stand here with all that feel as I do, disgusted with this lie, that Biden has been chosen. As if we all don't know the truth.”

Even as Mr Biden passed the 270 electoral college votes needed for victory in the US presidential race, Mr Trump declared the election was “far from over”, and accused the former vice president of “falsely posing as the winner”.

Trump is yet to concede defeat in the presidential race despite broadcasters calling the result in favour of Mr Biden and Kamala Harris on Saturday.

The 80-year-old Midnight Cowboy star – and father of Angelina Jolie – is a vocal Trump supporter and was was awarded the National Medal of Arts by Trump at the White House in 2019.

The Oscar-winning actor goes on to call Trump’s battle to have the election results overturned “our greatest fight since the civil war”.

“Let us give our trust to God and fight now for Trump's victory, because we all know this ballot count is corruption like they are. So let us not back down, let us fight this fight as if it is our last fight on earth.”

In his statement immediately following the news of Biden’s victory, Trump said: “Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.”

There has been no evidence of election fraud produced by the Trump campaign so far.

Joe Biden will be inaugurated at the 46th President of America on Wednesday, 20 January, 2021.
