Jon Snow Criticised Over Joke In Alan Rickman Tribute Interview

Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow made a light-hearted gag in a feature on the late Alan Rickman which has not gone down well with some viewers.

Snow was speaking to actor Richard Wilson, a friend and sometime collaborator of Rickman - and the newsreader couldn’t resist throwing in a nod to Wilson’s best-loved character Victor Meldrew, of TV sitcom ‘One Foot In The Grave.’

Wilson spoke lovingly of his lost friend, reflecting on their work together in the theatre, dating back to 1980 stageplay ‘Commitments’ in which Wilson directed Rickman.

He praised Rickman as “a very funny man,” a “metamorphic actor,” and “tremendously humble.”

Toward the end of the interview Snow asked Wilson whether he had known Rickman was dying, and when the actor responded that he did, Snow joked, “it wasn’t a case of ‘I don’t believe it,’ then?”

Wilson laughed politely at this - as he’s no doubt had to do countless times when people have said his old catchphrase to him over the years.

However, many on Twitter have not seen the funny side.

This comes not long after Rickman’s ‘Harry Potter’ co-star Emma Watson has similarly come under fire under accusations of exploiting the actor’s death to promote her feminist campaigning.
