Johnny Depp has still not been approached about 'Fantastic Beasts 3'
The return of Johnny Depp as the villainous Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts 3 is still not confirmed, as it has been reported that Warner Bros have not yet approached the actor about starring in the blockbuster.
Depp’s casting as the character for both the tail end of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald has proven to be incredibly controversial, as fans were furious that the actor, who has been accused of assaulting his ex-wife Amber Heard, was given such a prominent role.

An insider for The Blast has revealed that Warner Bros are still yet to hold discussions with the actor about the Fantastic Beasts 3. There’s still time, though, because production isn’t planned until the spring of 2020, while the film will eventually hit cinemas on November 12, 2021.
According to the website, the Oscar nominated actor “has a longstanding contract throughout the five-film franchise, but his option for each picture, like the rest of the stars in the cast, is handled separately by the movie studio.”
There have been increasing rumours that Depp might not return for the third installment to the Harry Potter spin-off. Earlier this month it was reported that Warner Bros were “freaking out” about the harm that Depp had brought to the franchise.

Especially since, while the first film grossed $814 million at the worldwide box office, its follow-up could only manage $653.7 million.
The Blast have now added to these reports, insisting that “a few executives have been lobbying for Depp’s firing,” although most of the main creatives involved in the franchise, including Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, are still in “fully support of him.” And that’s expected to be enough to see Depp return for Fantastic Beasts 3.
