Johnny Depp Should Pay Double His Divorce Settlement, Amber Heard’s Team Says
Apparently, the $7 million that Johnny Depp agreed to pay Amber Heard in their divorce settlement just won’t do.
A member of Heard’s team told TheWrap that Depp should double the amount, which is being paid to two charities of Heard’s choosing — because the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star will presumably receive a tax deduction for the charitable donations.
Last week, Heard announced that she would be donating her entire $7 million divorce settlement to two charities — the ACLU, to aid in that organization’s efforts to stop violence against women, and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where the actress has volunteered for the past decade.

Earlier this week, Depp reportedly paid his first in a number of installments to the two charities.
But a member of Heard’s team said Thursday that Depp should double up on what he’s paying in order to compensate for any tax deduction that he might receive as a result of the donations.
“[I]f Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honor the full amount by donating $14 million to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7 million payment obligation to Amber,” said the Heard camp member, who spoke to TheWrap on the condition of anonymity.

“We would also insist that the full amount be paid immediately and not drawn out over many years,” the individual added.
A spokesperson for Depp has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Heard, who had been married to Depp for little more than a year, filed for divorce from the actor in May and days later filed for a restraining order, claiming that the actor had been abusive to her throughout their relationship.
The couple settled their divorce a day before a hearing was to be held on the matter.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” Depp and Heard said in a statement on Tuesday, following the settlement.
“Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
