Johnny Depp has produced an unauthorised play on the life and career of Michael Jackson.

But far from being a normal biopic of the singer, who has been accused of sexually abusing a number of children, it is instead a musical told from the perspective of Jackson’s legendary glove.

For The Love Of A Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable About The Life Of Michael Jackson, as told by his Glove, is a theatre production by Julien Nitzberg which will debut in Los Angeles on January 25.

The show is narrated by Jackson’s all-singing and talking glove, and sees actors star alongside several life-size puppets of The Jackson 5, Donny Osmond, Corey Feldman and Bubbles The Chimp.

Nitzberg told Page Six that he initially came up with the idea for the project around 17 years ago.

“I’m known for writing a lot of biopics,” he said. “A major TV network wanted me to write a [Jackson] movie... but the question came up [about] how to deal with the child-abuse allegations.”

After disagreeing with their planned approach, he proposed: “Everything MJ has been accused of has actually been caused by his glove, which is actually an alien from outer space [and] feeds on virgin boy blood. They laughed and said, ‘Can you do the normal version?’”

Nitzberg decided to pursue his very unique version instead, but was unable to get financing for the project. That was until he worked with Johnny Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil, which is run by CEO Sam Sarkar, on a biopic of Tiny Tim, written for John Turturro.

That project ultimately didn’t get made. But when they asked Nitzberg what other pieces he was working on, he pitched For The Love Of A Glove and they immediately became interested.
