Johnnie To saddened by Johnny Hallyday's passing

11 Dec – Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To recently expressed sadness for the death of French singer, Johnny Hallyday, who passed away recently from cancer.

As reported on Sina, the action auteur who previously worked with Hallyday in his 2009 movie, "Vengeance", shared that he only learned about the death from the media while working in mainland China.

Said Johnnie, "I am very saddened by it. Johnny Hallyday made great achievements in music and art. It was my honour to have worked with this superstar."

"I wish him a safe journey," he added.

"Vengeance" actor Simon Yam also expressed his grief at the news, saying that he hopes Hallyday's influence in music will continue.

Known as the "French Elvis Presley", the Paris-born Jean-Philippe Léo Smet had released 18 platinum albums, sold more than 110 million records worldwide and made more than ten movies throughout his 57-year career.

It was reported that Hallyday, who previously battled colorectal cancer, passed away on 6 December from lung cancer. He was 74.
