Johnnie To honoured with contribution award

15 May – Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To was recently honoured with the Outstanding Contribution award at the 2017 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, the thriller auteur, who accepted the award from his constant collaborators Louis Koo and Sammi Cheng, prepared a video speech beforehand, where he acknowledged the importance of television stations such as TVB in nurturing new talents in showbiz.

"As someone who came from TVB, I believe that the company is a very good "university" for artistes," he said.

Johnnie also stressed that he would continue to make movies even though it is a challenging time now for Hong Kong filmmakers.

"I hope to cultivate a younger generation of creative people, as I believe that the next generation of filmmakers will present great things as well," he added.

Aside from Johnnie, stage actor and movie veteran Law Kar Ying was also honoured with similar accolade.
