Johnnie To happy "Septet" will open Busan Festival

18 Sep – Johnnie To recently admitted that he is elated that his movie, "Septet" has been selected to open the Busan International Film Festival.

As reported on Mingpao, To, who also produced the omnibus film that features works by renowned filmmakers that include Ann Hui, Sammo Hung, Patrick Tam, and Ringo Lam, stated that he and the other directors were pleased to hear that the movie is chosen to open another festival after it became the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival.

"Although everyone cannot attend the opening premiere this time, the film is the first collaboration of the seven of us. It is an achievement in itself that we continue to receive attention and invitations from various film festivals, proving that our creative and collaborative ideas have been recognised," he said.

Several members of the project also recently get together not only to come up with the final version of the movie, but also to celebrate Ann Hui's recent success at the Venice Film Festival, when she received the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 25th Busan International Film Festival has been rescheduled to be run from 21 to 30 October in a reduced format.
