16 Nov – Having gotten a taste of inserting tough female killers into his work, renowned director John Woo reveals that his next project will also involve female assassins.

"My next project is going to be an American film, it's a female assassin story," said the director to Cinema Online in an interview at Dorsett Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

"Another John Woo-style movie but with a female hero."

He shared that the movie will somewhat be an English version of his 1989 Hong Kong film, "The Killer", which starred Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee and Sally Yeh.

The director was unable to reveal further details regarding the movie as it is still in the pre-production stage but he did state that it will be filmed in spring next year in Europe.

John Woo is currently in Malaysia along with Korean actress Ha Ji-won to promote their upcoming action movie, "Manhunt", set for release in Malaysian cinemas this 23 November.

After meeting the media at a press conference at Dorsett yesterday, the duo also met with fans at a meet and greet event held at Pavilion KL, before gracing the red carpet of the movie's gala premiere at Sunway Velocity Mall.

"Manhunt" tells of a professor (Zhang Hanyu) who gets framed for murder and teams up with a detective (Masaharu Fukuyama) to clear his name. Ha Ji-won stars as a female assassin – a first for any John Woo movie. Woo's own daughter, Angeles, also plays a female assassin in the movie.

The multi-lingual movie is a remake of Ken Takakura-starrer "Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare", a 1976 Japanese film based on Juko Nishimura's novel of the same name.
