John Lloyd Cruz wants young actors to be original
21 Jul - He may be one of the most respected character actors of recent years, but according to John Lloyd Cruz, younger generation of actors should not just look to him for inspiration.
As reported on ABS-CBN, the actor who spoke about being admired by younger actors, stated that he would love to see these new talents find their own path, and to work hard "living a life geared towards originality and self-expression".
"I can't give them any advice, because I didn't do that myself during my time. But I would want to see them working, dying to be original," he said.
Cruz stated that rather than follow another actor's technique, one should dig deeper to find one's own style.
"If I portray a gay character, does it mean I watched other gay-themed movies? No, you have to find its heart. You can do it on your own," he said.
He stated that the chance to be an actor, to live and understand somebody else's life, is an opportunity that should not be wasted.
"Why mess it up with infusing with ways that you know are superficial? I would really want them to see that there is a way to make it authentic and more enjoyable," he said.
