There’s been a lot of anxiety and uncertainty over the past few years, which may mean you’re struggling to calm your mind - particularly at night.

From yoga to meditation and exercise, there are a number of expert-approved methods you can try to help reduce your stress levels and sleep more soundly. Another option is a weighted blanket.

Research, carried out by Scientists from the University of Massachusetts, has found a weighted blanket might help you sleep and there are reports to show a decrease in anxiety levels, too.

Dr Diana Gall, from Doctor4U, previously told Yahoo UK: “Scientific research is still ongoing on the effectiveness of weighted blankets for anxiety but it’s thought these blankets can reduce cortisol levels, which is a stress hormone.”

One of the top-rated weighted blankets out there is stocked at John Lewis & Partners.

The £80 blanket, which sold out after it first launched in September 2019, plus numerous times throughout 2020, is back in stock once again and forever topping the brand's popularity lists.

The weighted blanket is available to buy in six different weights, from 2.5kg up to 11.5kg, all of which vary in price depending on how heavy you want your blanket.

While the lightest design will cost £80, the heaviest will set you back £110.

The British retailer recommends customers buy a weighted blanket that is around 10% of their body weight for optimum comfort, although it advises against children under three years old using it.

The design boasts a 100% cotton cover, which is filled with glass beads and polyester, as well as a thread count of 200, and interlocking along the hem for extra durability.

What the reviews say

  • “Having been toying with purchasing this for a while I finally took the plunge and purchased at the weekend. I’m so pleased I did!”

  • “I’ve had a couple of brilliant nights sleep and I’ve just got home from a long hard day at work and pulled the blanket over me - I’m feeling instantly relaxed! I would definitely recommend.”

  • “I was given this blanket about four weeks ago, I have never slept so well! I’m far less restless and don't ache as much on waking.”

  • “Love my weighted blanket. It feels like a warm hug. As someone who tends to move a lot whilst asleep this felt a bit strange first time I used it. But it's great and I seem to sleep better and move around less when I use it.”

  • “I like the fact that you can select a weight based on your own weight for this blanket. I ended up with the 7kg version and boy it does feel heavy when all folded up! However once curled up under it, it feels very comfortable as hoped. I am very pleased with this.”
