John Krasinski has been discussing his plans for the A Quiet Place sequel.

Following the critical and commercial success of the horror film, it’s no surprise that Paramount is keen to follow it up with another movie but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be revisiting what’s left of the Abbott family.

In fact, Krasinski – who co-wrote, directed and starred in the film with his wife Emily Blunt – says that the sequel will offer a different perspective on life after an alien invasion.

Speaking to Deadline, the filmmaker said: “ll be honest with you: I really didn’t want to do the sequel. It was never built to launch sequels, which we all knew, and the studio knew too.

“But the idea for it is pretty simple. I’m writing now—I don’t have it fleshed out—but the thought that occurred to me, that really excited me about it, was that most sequels are about the return of a hero or a villain.

“You take this character that people loved once and you bring them back, and you have to create a new world around them,” Krasinski continued, “We have the exact opposite setup. We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it.

“The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it’s so much fun to explore. There are so many different things to see now.

“Everyone else in the world is experiencing this, so I’m curious to see what that looks like from another perspective,” he said.

This certainly sounds a lot like the Cloverfield franchise in that 10 Cloverfield Lane, the sequel to the original Cloverfield film, is set in the same world but centres on completely different characters in a different location.

This could mean we follow city dwellers trying to survive in silence from the alien threat, or people in a completely different country, or maybe we follow the story from the alien’s perspective.

Krasinski will be back to direct and write the film, though for obvious reasons he won’t be in it, though at this point it’s unclear if Blunt will reprise her role.

You can currently see her in Mary Poppins Returns in cinemas now.
