Joey Yung denies supporting Hong Kong protests

12 Nov – Joey Yung recently took to social media to deny speculations that she is a supporter of the Hong Kong protests.

As reported on Mingpao, the issue sparked earlier this week, when the singer posted an image of herself wearing a white mask on Instagram and Facebook, and posting lyrics from her song, "Airport", about flying.

After getting the backlash from mainland fans, Joey posted a long statement on Instagram and apologised for the misunderstanding.

She began her post by expressing, "I never thought that a lyric and a selfie I posted would lead to this storm. I am very sorry for my carelessness! I feel sorry for myself. I am worried about my family, my colleagues, and my loved ones, so today I feel that I must explain clearly to you."

Joey explained that the post was just about expressing the excitement of going to work.

"As a public figure, I did not think that my speech would have such a serious impact, it is indeed negligence on my part."

The singer stressed that she has always loved both the motherland and Hong Kong and is not in support of Hong Kong independence.

"I also love peace without any doubt. I hope that everything will be restored as soon as possible. I hope to prove myself with practical actions and continue to share positive energy music and I also feel sorry for the parties affected by the incident," she added.
