SINGAPORE – After the sudden exit of Joel Robuchon restaurants back in 2018, Singapore will once again be graced with two of the late French chef’s dining concepts within the year.

Bringing the dining concepts back to Singapore is Aimi Shibuya, 26, the Osaka-born restaurateur, who founded high-end Japanese restaurant, Sushi Kou. According to the January 2021 issue of Chinese magazine, Icon, Shibuya revealed that she is a huge fan of the Joel Robuchon restaurants and would dine in his Paris restaurants four times a year.

Holding the most Michelin stars globally, the late French chef Joel Robuchon has over 25 Michelin stars to his name and more than 20 establishments worldwide. To ensure standards in his restaurants here, Robuchon visited Singapore at least three times a year. Five-course dinner is priced at S$228 at the now-defunct two-Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and a four-course dinner three-Michelin-starred Joel Robuchon Restaurant started at S$298.

First opened in Singapore in 2011, the chef closed both of his Michelin-starred restaurant in Singapore back in June 2018 without much reason given. It was then speculated that the high rental costs at Resort World Sentosa, poor location, and high dining costs were part of the reasons for closure.

There had been talks about reopening the L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon at a different location on the island, but it was never materialised. The chef passed away from cancer a few months after his restaurants in Singapore closed.

“I always have an unforgettable time dining at Joel Robuchon restaurants, and I hope to bring this experience to Singapore, wishing that everyone can have the same experience as I did,” Shibuya shared.

Information about the new restaurants is scarce at the moment except that the two restaurants will be opened within 2021.
