Joel McHale Lists Los Angeles Home (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Joel McHale
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $2,395,000
SIZE: 3,451 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 3 full and 2 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A Los Angeles home owned per property records by actor/comedian Joel McHale has hit the open market with a $2,395,000 price tag. Property records show the sharply sardonic comedian, actor, producer, writer and TV host, best known for his co-starring role on the sitcom “Community” and for hosting the pop culture skewering clip show “The Soup,” acquired the property in December 2007 for $1.88 million. The multi-level house, on a pin drop quiet cul-de-sac in the star-studded Oaks neighborhood in the prosperous East Side community of Los Feliz, sits on a .32-acre parcel with four bedrooms and three full and two half bathrooms in 3,451-square-feet that was, per listing details, “tastefully renovated by a noted designer.”

The late-1940s red brick accented traditional has fanciful if arguably incongruous Hollywood Regency style flourishes throughout, i.e. the tomato red front door with centered door knob that’s bracketed by elegant fluted pilasters and opens to a double-height foyer and roomy formal living room with coved ceiling and fireplace. Dark-stained high-gloss parquet floors in the entry and living room extend in to the formal dining room that, along with a Chinoiserie birdcage chandelier, has multi-paned floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors that open to the backyard. The relatively compact but efficiently arranged and expensively outfitted eat-in kitchen has black slab granite counter tops on white cabinetry along with a pricey array of name-brand appliances that include a warming drawer, wine fridge and built-in coffee and espresso machine. A Hollywood Regency inspired entertainment unit takes up an entire wall in the family room where French doors open at one end of the room to a small office/den and more French doors at the opposite end of the orange walled room connect to the backyard.

Along with a street-level two-car garage, the lowest floor includes a long and slender library/office anchored at one end by a fireplace and lined on three walls with custom-crafted floor-to-ceiling bookshelves atop enclosed storage cabinets. A guest bedroom on the main floor has an attached bathroom with claw-footed tub and cacophonously cheerful cherry blossom patterned wallpaper while the upper level master bedroom is lined, walls and ceiling, with shimmery silver metallic wallpaper and features a cozy cushioned banquette set in to a bay window with open canyon and sky views. The back of the house opens to a tree-shaded and foliage enshrouded courtyard-like stone terrace with numerous and generous lounging and dining areas, a built-in grilling station and freestanding outdoor fireplace.

Our research shows Mister McHale, who looked beefed up and especially muscular in the second season finale of the deliciously rude Netflix comedy “Difficult People,” and his wife, Sarah, additionally own a nondescript four bedroom and 2.5 bathroom house of 2,210-square-feet in a planned development in the tongue-twisting Seattle suburb of Sammamish, WA, that was picked up per property records in the spring of 2009 for $501,000.
