Joe Keery urges fans to relax after haircut outrage

Joe Keery has called on fans to "relax" after they were outraged about his new haircut.

The 27-year-old, who is known for rocking a long mullet as his character Steve Harrington in '80s-set TV show Stranger Things, caused uproar when he appeared at a New York Fashion Week event in September and had swapped his signature thick and voluminous hairdo for a flat, short bowl cut with a fringe.

Fans took to social media to express their outrage and were relieved when Joe was snapped by the paparazzi the following week and the fringe was gone and his shorter locks had been styled into their usual gravity-defying look.

When quizzed about the drama by MTV News at New York Comic Con, the actor shared that he was blown away by the reaction.

"I should've done some social justice thing with it rather than just getting a f**king haircut," he said. "Everyone seems to be flipping out. Relax everybody."

When asked if he will consult his fans about his haircuts in the future, he replied, "Absolutely not. I'm just gonna keep getting a haircut if I need one... What a wild, wild world."

In a separate interview, he told Entertainment Tonight he didn't expect to cause such a fuss, adding, "It’s just a regular person getting a haircut."

Stranger Things hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul previously told Refinery29 that she takes 30 minutes to style Joe's thick mane before filming.

"It's just Joe's hair, no extensions. It's a huge undertaking.... It's hard hair to get it to stay back because his hair is so thick and does what it wants," she shared. "It takes about 30 minutes and he has to not wash it the day before."
