Joe Jonas Says His Marriage to Sophie Turner Is "Irretrievably Broken"
Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie Turner in Florida yesterday, and details have emerged about the contents of the documents.
According to People, the filing claims "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." No reason appears to be given as to why, but when it comes to custody, Us Weekly reports that the filing states the following: “in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility.” Meanwhile, per TMZ there's mention of Joe wanting to establish a parenting plan that includes "frequent and continuing contact with both parties." The filing also makes mention of the couples' prenup.
Joe and Sophie released a joint statement on Wednesday morning (September 6) confirming news of their divorce, saying "Statement from the two of us: 'After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
Meanwhile, a source tells People that "They were not separated but they've been living separate lives for months," and that they "haven't gotten along in a while, but they're hoping to resolve this all amicably."
"As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they're figuring it out in real time," the insider adds. "They did have a prenup. As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he's been on tour. Sophie's been working in the UK."
Apparently Joe's divorce filing hasn't come as a "surprise" to the couples' friends, since they have spent "the whole summer apart." That said, Sophie was seen dancing at a Jonas Brothers show in mid-August, and posted photos from the night on her Instagram of her hand-in-hand with Joe.
