Joe Chen: You don't have to be married to be happy!

1 Jun – Although some people think that a 40-year-old woman should already settle down and have kids, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen is not one to rush into marriage for the sake of it.

As reported on ET Today, the actress, who sat down for an interview on the mainland show, "Middle Me" recently, shared that while she occasionally feels lonely and anxious, the feelings does not stem from the fact that she is single.

"I don't think that the anxiety will be alleviated by having a family or a child," she said.

Joe stated that she was once had a chance of such happiness in the past, but chose instead to stay in Beijing for her career. Although she has her own number of pursuers in recent years, the actress said that she hasn't met anyone that she likes.

"I wish I could be gentle, but being gentle is not who Joe Chen is. I have to be honest and just be myself," she said.

The actress stated that she still believes in love at first sight, and the idea of getting married for love.

"Don't get married for the sake of getting married. Unless you love this person, he loves you, and you want to spend your lives together, you shouldn't jump into it. But there will always be people who care about my life and my age more than I do myself," she said.

She also dismissed the notion of "leftover woman", saying that it is such a narrow concept.

"Although I am single, I am happy. It doesn't have to be a man. The place you choose, the home you created, they can give you that sense of belonging," she said.
