JK Rowling: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was an ‘accident’
JK Rowling has described the ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ as a “bit of an accident,” admitting that she never aspired for the spin-off to reach the big-screen.
Rowling, who makes her screenwriting debut with ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’, told the BBC at the premiere for the film, ”This is unbelievable, but what’s weird about this, is that I never aspired to this. This is very much an added extra.”
JK Rowling confessed that the reason she delved into ’Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ is because she “couldn’t let the story go.”
After originally being pursued by Warner Bros. about a cinematic tale for Newt Scamander, the protagonist of her 2001 book of the same name, Rowling started writing down notes about the character because she “knew a lot about” him.
But things quickly escalated. “Then I wrote a story, then I banged out a screenplay, which I thought they would give to someone more competent, and they said, ‘Nah, you can do that’. So it was all a bit of an accident, to be honest.”
While ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ might have started off as an accident, JK Rowling has now flung herself fully into the franchise. That’s because she’s already confirmed that there will be four sequels, which will include the return of ‘Harry Potter’ hero Albus Dumbledore.
We’ll finally get to see the first instalment to this cannon when ‘Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them’ is released on November 18.
