Jericho Rosales, Kim Jones help residents

13 Nov – Jericho Rosales and wife Kim Jones were recently lauded by netizens and the public alike for using their surfboards to help Marikina residents trapped inside their homes following Typhoon Ulysses.

As reported on ABS-CBN, Rosales, who spoke about the assistance, said that he and his wife decided to help the rescuers after seeing the flood situation, saying that it has always been a problem when such a situation occurred.

"Sometimes there are no boats or flotation devices, so Kim and I took out our surfboards. They are safe now, thank God. But there are others that cannot be reached by the rescue teams because the current is strong and there are no boats yet," he said.

It is noted that Rosales, an avid surfer, has done the same in the past when tropical storm Ondoy hit the country in 2009.

Asked if he thought the Typhoon Ulysses is much worse than Ondoy, Rosales said that he has no data or fact to compare it, but that it was worse in a way that it caught the residents by surprise.

"We have to stay calm. Maybe it's too late now to complain or anything so better if we prepare ourselves in the future. I am always prepared. Of course, support the rescuers. I hope they get enough funds for rescue. We need to get better warnings for the people so that it does not happen again," he said.
