Jeremy Irons confirms The Batman will shoot next summer

Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie starts filming next year.

During an interview with Variety, 68-year-old ‘Batman V Superman’ star Jeremy Irons revealed that the upcoming Batman solo film will begin shooting next year. And it sounds as though he’s getting a bigger role this time around.

Asked about his role in ‘Justice League’, he replied: “Similar [to ‘Batman V Superman’], but then, of course, Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that.”

“In the ‘Justice League’ we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them,” he added. “It’s clear I will not be dominating that film.”

Of course, he’s not the first to confirm that Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie will film next year. After all, Joe Manganiello - who will play the DC villain Deathstroke - also revealed that the film will begin shooting ‘early next year’.

So it seems pretty certain that the Batman solo film begins shooting next year.

But will it gain better critical response than ‘Batman V Superman’?

Asked if he was upset by the critical reaction to ‘Batman V Superman’, Irons clearly couldn’t care less and even wondered why the press had given director Zack Snyder such a hard time.

“Not at all. I was very pleased by the numbers. Zack Snyder seems to get a hard time from the press, which is strange. I don’t know if it has to do with the sort of secrecy that surrounds the making of it all. But the audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters.”

Either way, it’s Ben Affleck who’s calling the shots for his solo Batman movie.

Will it manage to top ‘Batman V Superman’? For now we have to wait and see.

‘Justice League’ heads to cinemas on 17 November 2017.
