Jennylyn Mercado to star in "My Love From the Star" remake

Director Joyce Bernal confirmed the news, but tight-lipped on the lead actor

9 Aug - Director Joyce Bernal has confirmed that Jennylyn Mercado will star in the Filipino remake of the hit Korean drama, "My Love From the Star".

As reported on PEP News, the director, who spoke with the media recently, admitted that she will be helming the Kapuso remake, and that Mercado will play the female lead.

Rumours of Mercado playing the role sparked recently when she was revealed to have been training with beauty pageant-maker, Jonas Gaffud.

"My Love From the Star" tells the love story between an alien, Do Min-joon (renamed in the Philippines as Matteo Do), and a popular actress named Cheon Song-yi (or Steffi Cheon). It became a global hit when it aired in 2014, cementing the star power of Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun and launch actor Kim Soo-hyun to fame.

As for the actor who will play the role of Matteo, Bernal said that everything will be revealed in a special press conference in October.

She also revealed that she is unsure whether Alden Richards will be joining the drama as it was reported.
