Jennifer Lopez had to be sewn into the barely-there bodysuit she rocked in Hustlers.
For her character Ramona’s introductory scene, the Jenny from the Block singer takes to the stage at a strip club and wows the crowd with a high-energy pole-dancing performance in a strappy G-string number that leaves little to the imagination.
In an interview with Fashionista, costume designer Mitchell Travers revealed that some of the strings broke during the first take of the physically demanding performance, so the 50-year-old had to be sewn into the outfit in order to keep everything in place.
"I wanted the audience to be like, 'That is going to fall off. That is going to fall off,'" he said. “We actually had to sew Jennifer into it. Two of her strings burst on her first take and, of course, costume designer nightmare... We're all running with needles and thread to sew her into this costume."
Travers looked at “a million” bodysuit options but decided to create the silver custom design, which features a deep-V that plunges down past Lopez’s navel, to establish Ramona’s confidence and show off the fact that the star did the whole pole dance herself.
"I was just so inspired by her strength and her athleticism that I was like, 'We need to make sure everyone knows this is Jennifer. There is no double here, Jennifer is doing this fully,'" the designer gushed. "Obviously, that leads you to less and less clothing."
The Maid in Manhattan star, who spent months preparing for the role, previously revealed that she was terrified to perform in such a skimpy creation.
"I was terrified... I felt exposed. I was like, 'I've never done anything like this. I'm going to be up there in f**king dental floss,” she told Variety. "And then you get up there, and you have to have a 'f**k you,' empowered attitude.”
