JC Santos admits to have worked as OFW in HK, Singapore

21 May – JC Santos has a reason why he is excited about his upcoming OFW-related movie, "The Eventologist", and that is because he used to be one.

As reported on Push, the actor, who spoke about the said project recently, shared that he used to work as an Overseas Filipino Worker for four years in Hong Kong and Singapore.

"I was a performer for both theme parks. The first time I went there I was 19 years old. I was curious because at that time because my parents were OFWs so I wanted to understand why my parents separated, why they had to work. So I want to understand their side. So I auditioned for Universal Studios Singapore and luckily I got in," he explained.

Santos admitted that he really enjoyed working in Singapore and making a lot of money for himself.

"At that time, I was still finding myself. I really wanted to be a performer. My main dream was to study in New York at the time. I thought that maybe I will save it so that I can study in New York. So the money I really did use for my studies and eventually I was able to build a house as well," he added.

However, the actor admitted that there were challenges of working abroad on his own, including feeling lonely and vulnerable.

"When you're in the Philippines, you have your comfort zones. You can see your friends and your loved ones. But when you are abroad, there is nothing. It felt like I was working every time, even when I am at home and relaxing," he said.

The upcoming movie will begin filming later this year in Doha, Qatar.
