Jason Bourne Opens To Massive Weekend At Box Office

It may have only just landed in cinemas, but already ‘Jason Bourne’ is making obscene amounts of money in its opening weekend.

So far, according to Box Office Mojo, the fourth ‘Bourne’ (well, we’re not going to count Jeremy Renner’s ‘The Bourney Legacy’ attempt) has taken an impressive $60 million domestically (so that’s in the US) but has accumulated a total of $110 million worldwide in just a few short days.

Matt Damon’s fourth outing - and his first since 2007′s ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ - seems to be a welcomed return for the action hero. Directed by returning helmer Paul Greengrass (previously responsible for both ‘Supremacy’ and ‘Ultimatum’), cinema goers appear to have taken to the latest conspiracy thriller and looks set to be a huge summer hit.

‘Jason Bourne’ is the second biggest ‘Bourne’ movie opening, sitting just behind ‘Ultimatum’ which took an impressive $69.2 million, with reviews from critics and fans largely positive.

Overseas takings were equally hefty, with $50.1 million amassed from over 46 markets, storming its way into the number one spot in 27 of those territories. The film’s set to significantly increase on this $110 million opening because it hasn’t even opened in India and Japan yet, which can be hugely profitable territories.

‘Jason Bourne’ stars Damon who reprises his role as the title lead, with Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, and Julia Stiles forging a strong supporting cast, as Bourne is drawn out of hiding to uncover the hidden truths about his past.

‘Jason Bourne’ is in UK cinemas now.
