You may recognise Takeru Satoh from the recently-released Ajin movie, or his role as the titular Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films, but the Japanese actor now has another accolade to his name.

The 28-year-old made a special appearance on Wednesday (29 November) at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) held in Japan, and immediately after became the most searched keyword on NAVER, Korea’s major search engine.

Satoh was presenting the Best Male Group Dance Performance award, won by boyband SEVENTEEN. In addition to his special appearance, Satoh also posed for pictures, most notably with Korean actor Park Bo-gum.

Satoh’s MAMA cameo happened on the second night of the three-day event, which was held across three countries – Vietnam on 25 November, Japan on 29 November, and Hong Kong on 1 December.

Other awards presented that night in Japan included Best Female Group Dance Performance, which went to TWICE, as well as Best New Male Artist, won by the temporary boyband Wanna One.

TWICE also picked up a second award for “Signal”, which won the Song of the Year Daesang (daesang is a ‘grand prize’). It was their second time in a row winning the award, which they bagged last year for their single “Cheer Up”.

MAMA is a major K-pop music award ceremony held annually by entertainment company CJ E&M and broadcasted through their music channel Mnet.
