5 Mar – TV personality Janis Chan and actress Toby Chan recently admitted that they are worried over a recent news about a dog in Hong Kong suspected of being infected with the coronavirus.
As reported on Mingpao, the two celebrities who spoke to the media at a face mask distribution activity, stated that recent news is really concerning as they are worried that some owners might abandon their pets as a result.
"I have two cats. I consider those pets a part of my family. People should not panic and the most important thing is to take care of yourself and your pets," said Janis.
Toby agreed, saying that even her mother was worried when she saw the news, and reminded her not to kiss her pet cockatoo.
"I explained to her that a pet will never leave their owner if they become ill, and I will never do the same. I will continue to shower my love to my cockatoo, though I will also pay more attention to my own personal hygiene. I will also wash my pet twice to four times a week," she said.
In the most recent news, the Hong Kong's Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the World Health organisation both agree that there is no evidence that pets can be infected with coronavirus despite the previous incident where a dog was tested a "weak positive" for the said virus.
AFCD is currently testing to see whether the dog has been infected or if it's just been contaminated with the virus.
