Janine Chang denies supporting Taiwan independence

9 Sep - While she was not named in the supposed and alleged "potential blacklisted artistes" of China's recent ban previously, Taiwanese actress Janine Chang is close to getting herself onto the 'list' - thanks to mainland netizens.

As reported on HK01, the actress recently had to release a statement denying that she was pro-Taiwan independence, after netizens dug up her old Master's degree thesis in Industrial Economics, which was titled, "The Financial Management and Legal Problems of My Country's Artistes."

She was then accused of supporting Taiwan as an independent country due to her use of the word "my country" in the title to refer to Taiwan.

On 7 September, Janine's agency issued a statement stressing that the actress has "firmly identified herself as Chinese."

"Ms Janine Chang is not a supporter of the Taiwan independence... she will not allow any people to take advantage of her and create conflict."

It is noted that the thesis paper was written in 2010.

Meanwhile, her name had since been removed from the cast list of her drama, "The Psychologist", which is scheduled to air next month.
