Jane Fonda has confirmed that a sequel to classic office comedy 9 to 5 is in the works.

Fonda also revealed that she’ll be joined by her original co-stars Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin for the long-awaited follow-up.

Speaking at a panel event for the Television Critics Association (via Entertainment Weekly), she said: “My role is as an executive producer, and I’m working with the writers, with Lily, and talking to the writers.

“Right now, Dolly, Lily and I are all intending to be in it.”

Talk of a remake emerged earlier this year, with Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones reportedly signing on to co-write a script with Patricia Resnick, who penned the original movie.

At the time, Dolly Parton revealed that she’d be interested in jumping on board.

“All these years we’ve talked about doing a sequel to 9 to 5 and it never made any real sense until just recently,” she said

“We decided that we are going to do another one. We are trying to get the script and all that, everyone is very interested and we’ve all agreed that we’d love to do it if it’s right.

“I told them we better get after it or it’s going to be 95 instead of 9 to 5.”

Fonda went on to lament that the landscape for women in the workplace has scarcely moved on since the movie was released in 1980.

It found Fonda, Parton and Tomlin locking horns with their chauvinistic boss, played by Dabney Coleman.

“I’m sorry to say the situation is worse today,” she said. “Today a lot of the workforce is hired by an outside company. Who do you talk to if you have a problem?”

However, she seemed more positive about the recent advances in equality, thanks to the #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns.

“I do think sexual harassment will tend to drop. Guys are scared,” she added.
