Jameela Jamil slams cast of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood'
Jameela Jamil has called out the cast of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for collaborating with Emile Hirsch.
The former T4 presenter, and now a star of The Good Place, has previously tweeted her ire at the double standards of people working on the Quentin Tarantino movie with the man who was convicted of assaulting her friend and has now doubled down on her views in the Guardian.
“It is so dark,” she says. “How dare any of the people involved in that movie wear Time’s Up pins to the Golden Globes? Can people just not hire men who have almost killed women?”
She is referring to her movie executive pal, Daniele Bernfeld, who was physically assaulted by Hirsch at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015. The actor was arrested, fined and sentenced to 15 days in jail but it has not hindered his acting career.
Tarantino himself admitted that he knew that Harvey Weinstein, who had produced several of his movies, had assaulted many women but remained silent until the allegations came out last year.
His latest film is set against the backdrop of the Charles Manson murder of Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of Roman Polanski, who is yet another controversial figure in the movie industry after he fled the US for raping a 13-year-old.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Al Pacino, with Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, James Marsden, Damien Lewis, Burt Reynolds, Luke Perry and Tim Roth co-starring.
Jamil, who will return as Tahani in season three of The Good Place this autumn, says she doesn’t care if her comments make her enemies in Hollywood as she would rather not be complicit.
“Oh, I don’t care about that,” Jamil says. “I can’t not say this because then you become a double agent for the patriarchy, which has always been my greatest fear.”
