Jake Gyllenhaal is a dead ringer for the Disneyland incarnation of Woody from Toy Story, according to social media users. And once seen it can never be unseen. Sorry.

Tweets from as far back as 2009 note a resemblance between the Oscar nominee and the Tom Hanks-voiced cowboy toy, but the return of Toy Story and Gyllenhaal’s role in Spider-Man: Far From Home has reignited the social media flame.

Woody costumes have been walking red carpets all over the world to mark the release of Toy Story 4 and it has fans talking about the Brokeback Mountain actor’s resemblance to another iconic big screen cowboy.

Gyllenhaal has long been the subject of online fan casting for a potential live-action version of Toy Story, based purely on his resemblance to the animated doll.

With Gyllenhaal gracing cinema screens all over the world as Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the actor is at the forefront of minds once again.

His role is as a paternal, mentor figure to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the aftermath of Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame, with Gyllenhaal citing Robert Downey Jr. as an influence on the character.

While the Woody/Gyllenhaal connection exists in the Toy Story movies, there is something about the permanently grinning Disneyland take on Woody that makes the resemblance even more compelling.

However, Woody isn’t the only animated character that the Donnie Darko star bears a striking resemblance to, as one social media wag also pointed out he looks a lot like Alex the lion from Madagascar too.

Over at Walt Disney Animation, every animated classic is being harvested and remastered in live-action form, with The Little Mermaid next out of the gate.

Pixar has avoided the live-action charge thus far, but it seems there’s only one man audiences will accept as Woody if Andy’s bedroom is revamped in the future.

With 10 years of discussion already behind the Gyllenhaal/Woody doppelganger phenomenon, it’s unlikely that fans will let this drop any time soon.

Come to think of it, has anyone ever seen them in the same room?
