Jaimie Alexander to Return as Sif in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Jaimie Alexander is in talks to return to the Marvel Cinematic as the fan favorite Asgardian warrior Sif in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and may also make an appearance on the upcoming “Loki” Disney+ series, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

Alexander appeared as Sif, one of Thor’s closest friends who, it’s implied, carries a torch for him, in 2011’s “Thor” and 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.” She didn’t appear in “Thor: Ragnarok” due to scheduling conflicts with her NBC show “Blindspot.”

Of course, the plot of “Love and Thunder” and Sif’s role in it are still under wraps, but we have an idea of what might happen. Bear with us for a second as we explains.

Recall that in “Avengers: Endgame,” after the Avengers fail to undo The Snap and the story skips ahead 5 years, we learn that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) became consumed by depression and largely ignored his duties as the king of New Asgard. By the end he figured things out a bit and abdicated, handing the kingdom over to Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who was pretty much already running things in New Asgard anyway. Then Thor left Earth on a journey to parts unknown with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Meanwhile it’s probably at least somewhat relevant that during the announcement of “Love and Thunder” at Comic-Con 2019, Thompson provided a crucial detail about Valkyrie’s story. “First of all, as a new king, she needs to find her queen. So that will be the first order of business,” she told fans in Hall H.

Point being, we think Lady Sif would make a pretty good Queen of Asgard.

Alexander joins Academy Award Winner Christian Bale in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” who as announced Thursday during Disney’s investor call will play the villain Gorr the God Butcher.

“Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi is returning to helm “Love and Thunder” and co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. “Thor: Love and Thunder” will open May 6, 2022.

Marvel had no comment.

Alexander most recently starred as the lead on NBC’s “Blindspot,” which ran for five seasons.

Jaimie Alexander is repped by UTA, Atlas Artists and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.

Deadline first reported the news.
