Etta Ng, the only daughter of Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan, was recently admitted to hospital in Hong Kong after a rumoured suicide attempt on Sunday (1 Apr).

She left for Thailand for a vacation with her mother’s friends on Friday (31 Mar) after posting a Facebook message that said, “Leaving [Hong Kong] for a bit [tomorrow]. I am still alive, for those who are wondering.”

Ng then cut her getaway short by returning to Hong Kong on Sunday morning and went to the hospital immediately upon landing.

Her mother, former beauty queen Elaine Ng, rushed to the hospital to see her daughter. Responding to media queries about her daughter being hospitalised because of a suicide attempt, she sighed and said, “I’m sorry.”

According to Ming Pao Daily News, netizens shared that the 17-year-old Ng had previously posted articles about depression and suicide on her personal social media accounts.

Elaine Ng, who was the winner of the Miss Asia 1990 beauty pageant, gave birth to Etta after having an affair with Chan in 1999.

Dubbed as “little dragon girl” by the Chinese media, the teenager has always been in the media spotlight because of her status as Chan’s illegitimate daughter, as well as for her troubled relationship with her mother.

In 2015, she reported her mother to the police for alleged child abuse. And just before her hospitalisation, she called the police to arrest her mother for alleged intimidation.
