Jack Neo's son Regent marries Awkwafina lookalike
Singaporean director Jack Neo took to his Instagram to announce that his eldest son Regent, 27, tied the knot on Saturday (9 October).
“My eldest son is married. Thank you everyone for your blessings!” Jack Neo wrote in his post. Many celebrities left congratulatory messages for Neo, including the stars of his movies such as Joshua Tan from Ah Boys To Men, and Long Long Time Ago stars Aileen Tan and Ryan Lian.
Jack Neo told Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao that he hoped his daughter-in-law would give birth to three children as “the house will be livelier”. He also shared that Regent’s wedding ceremony was held at a small church with family and friends in attendance.
Not much is known about Regent's wife. Malaysian Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily said that she looks like American actress Awkwafina, who recently featured in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings.
Jack Neo further revealed that the newly-weds had planned for a 250-pax wedding banquet, but that had to be postponed to 8 November due to the new COVID-19 restrictions. He said, “This pandemic wave caught us off guard. Many of our relatives and friends are elderly, so we must take greater precautions.”
When asked what gifts he had prepared for the couple, Jack Neo replied with an air of mystery that they had followed the general etiquette and customs, but would not disclose exactly what gifts were involved. According to the traditions of a Chinese wedding, the groom will present betrothal gifts, such as gold jewellery and wine, to the bride’s parents.
The 61-year-old director has a daughter — Ethel, 29, who is already married with two sons — and three sons — Regent, Ritz, 22, and Raffles, 17. Regarding the marriages of his two other sons, Jack Neo laughed while saying that that would not happen so soon as they were still schooling.
