New ITV documentary shares behind the scenes details about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding
It's been almost ten years since Prince William and Kate Middleton were married - and now friends, family and insiders are revealing all about how one of the biggest events in history went so smoothly.
Thanks to a largely unseen crew, from caterers to security services and many others in between, the nuptials went without a hitch and almost two billion people worldwide watched the couple wed on 29 April 2011.
The Day Will and Kate Got Married, which airs on ITV tonight (Wednesday, 7 April) celebrates the special day through the eyes of those involved behind the scenes.
In a clip of tonight's one off special, cake designer Fiona Cairns, who made the cake, reveals a candid encounter with HRH the Queen. She also explains how they had to remove some doors in Buckingham Palace in order to accommodate the Duke and Duchess' wedding cake.
"I hear that you've been dismantling my house," she told Fiona.
Among those sharing their special memories of the day include Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, former Metropolitan Police commander Bob Broadhurst who was in charge of security on the day, royal historian Robert Lacey, plus the dress’s embroider, choristers and Middleton family friends and neighbours.
