It’s Batman v Superman v Flash v Aquaman v Supergirl in ‘Injustice 2’ Trailer

Why stop at Batman v Superman when you can have Superman v Flash or Batman v Aquaman?

The cinematic announcement trailer for the upcoming Injustice 2 video game arrived Wednesday, teasing a monumental throwdown among DC Comics’ greatest heroes, including Batman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, and Supergirl. (Watch above.)

The sequel picks up where 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us left off: Set in an alternate reality, the game established a world where Superman and his costumed cronies square off against Batman and his buddies.

The scenario is simply an excuse to pit comic-book icons against each other to finally settle all those “who would win?” school-yard hypotheticals. Injustice 2 promises “the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game,” with playable characters including those featured in the trailer as well as villains like Flash nemesis Gorilla Grodd and Green Lantern antagonist Atrocitus. Settings include Metropolis, Gotham City, and even Atlantis.

As we’ve noted here before, games such as the original Injustice helped inform the visual template of DC’s movie universe, notably the armored costumes. The new trailer plays upon that linkage, beginning with a shot of a stunned Superman that seems to be a wink to the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (spoiler: the dirt moved, people!). The versions of Batman, Flash, and Aquaman depicted here are also stylistically similar to their cinematic counterparts.

Injustice 2, developed by NetherRealm Studios for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment, will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017.
