A glistening monument has been erected in Forte dei Marmi, on the coast of Northern Tuscany near Pisa.

The geometric interpretation of the Iron Man, kneeling with his fist to the plinth, is called – slightly confusingly, given Superman's nickname – 'Man of Steel', and is part of an exhibition of the work of sculptor Daniele Basso.

It stands on Via Carducci in the town, near the Piazza Marconi, with a plaque explaining the thinking behind the piece.

According to Krypton Radio, it reads: “The first monument dedicated to Iron Man in the year of his death in the cinematic world, we celebrate Tony Stark as a man who dedicates his life's fortunes to fight for the ideals he believes in... reminding us that we are all the protagonists of our time – the that future of humanity depends on our decisions... that all of us must be heroes!”

A lovely sentiment.

Basso's previous work has been in the fashion and automotive industries, working for the likes of Versace, Ermenegildo Zegna and Fiat.
