Melania Trump’s hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia, has unveiled its wooden statue interpretation of the First Lady.

The statue, which people have likened to a “creepy scarecrow” and described as “ghoulish” has certainly got her hometown, and Twitter, talking.

The chainsaw-carved statue sits just outside of Sevnica and was unveiled to the public late last week.

It showcases her in the powder-blue Ralph Lauren suit she wore to President Trump’s inauguration in 2017.

The statue was commissioned by American artist, Brad Downey, and brought to life by Slovenian artist, Ales “Maxi” Zupevc.

Within moments of it being unveiled, confused comments began to surface.

As the artist has used a chainsaw to carve the statue, many have commented on how the face isn’t very detailed.

The artist himself even said to AFP: “I can understand why people might think that this falls short as a description of her physical appearance.”

Twitter users were equally as baffled by the depiction of the First Lady.

Some compared it to the Cristiano Ronaldo statue, which was met with equal confusion when it was erect in Madeira airport.

Brad Downey, who commissioned the project, has shared numerous videos and images to show how the statue was created.

The statue, which is simply called “Melania” was carved into a tree which is still rooted in Sevnica.

He silenced the critics by explaining to ABC News that he wanted to create an “artistic investigation of Melania Trump” and he wanted to use a local artist whose self-taught work followed folk tradition.

The statue also had an underlying political motive: “I was inspired to do something about this anti-immigration narrative coming from Donald Trump. It is a blatant contradiction to have a president, who is married to a [legal] immigrant, make stopping immigration a cornerstone of his presidency.”
