Is The Rock’s Beef With Vin Diesel Just A Wrestlemania PR Stunt?

Has Dwayne Johnson’s recent outspoken feud with his ‘Fast & Furious’ co-star Vin Diesel seemed a little out of character for the generally affable actor – but entirely in-keeping with his old WWE persona of The Rock?

Well, this might not be an accident.

A new report has claimed that the conflict between the musclebound stars is all for show – and all building up to a showdown between the duo at Wrestlemania in 2017.

This claim comes from Life & Style, who cite an unnamed source declaring that the ‘Fast & Furious’ stars “are playing a huge prank, and it’s all for publicity.”

The alleged insider explains, “The Rock convinced Vin to amp up the drama between them so they could turn it into a WWE match to help promote the April 2017 release of ‘Fast 8.’”

This doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility, as WWE’s Wrestlemania 33 event takes place on 2 April 2017 – less than two weeks before ‘Fast 8’ opens on 14 April.

What better time and place for Diesel and Johnson to settle their supposed differences, mano e mano?

While he’s largely retired as a wrestler, Johnson has been known to return to the ring as The Rock from time to time – and, as not only the biggest name in wrestling but also one of the biggest movie stars around, his special appearances tend to be at the flagship Wrestlemania event.

ComicBook.com suggest that Johnson might have dropped a sly hint to this effect, in using the slur ‘candy asses’ in the angry Instagram rant that started all the drama – as ‘candy asses’ was a term The Rock would often use when trash-talking his opponents.

Still, if this is all merely a PR stunt/prank, they’ve been doing a good job convincing us all. Whether it’s for real or not, we can be sure there’s more to come on this story.
