Iris Apfel’s latest venture, a coveted colouring book, is not only a stylish way to pass time, but it’s also rising money for aspiring designers.
The 98-year-old style legend released her Iris: The Coloring Book this week, which retails at $45, and proceeds will benefit the students on the University of Texas at Austin’s UT in NYC program, which Apfel launched 10 years ago.
Illustrated by Kelly Framel, an alumnus of the course, fans will get to colour in line drawings of the fashion icon, with some of her favourite sayings also dotted around the 16-page book.
And talking to Footwear News, Apfel shared she has plenty of other projects she’s currently working on.
“Some friends of mine are doing books, so I’ve done a forward or captions,” she shared. “And I’m working on some interior design projects, but there’s no launch date yet because of what’s happening. It will be for sale through wholesale.
“My problem is not turning my creativity on, it’s turning it off. Fortunately I’m a major multi-tasker. I never like to do one thing at once, it makes me nervous.”
The star, famous for her signature black-rimmed glasses and bold jewellery, has been in lockdown in her apartment in Palm Beach, Florida since December. But she’s kept busy with work and getting to grips with Instagram.
“It’s only recently, being in, that I’ve paid any attention to (Instagram). Frankly, I never look at it, but at least I’m involved in it. I do all the selecting and write all the captions. So that’s kept me very busy,” she said.
