22 Jun - It was revealed that Stephen Chow's big blockbuster success, "The Mermaid" will soon be adapted into a drama series.

As reported on Chinaplus, it was rumoured that online streaming provider iQiyi has paid a hefty amount of RMB 420 million to buy the rights to the 2016 movie in order to turn it into a series.

"The Mermaid" made more than RMB 3.3 billion at the box office when it premiered on the Lunar New Year last year, making it the highest-grossing movie of all time.

It stars then newcomer Jelly Lin Yun, and Chinese actor Deng Chao.

In addition to "The Mermaid", iQiyi reportedly has also bought the rights to another Stephen Chow project, "Journey to the West".
