The Internet has realized *this* is why no one came to Mia’s show in “La La Land”

If you haven’t heard, La La Land is kind of a big deal. It’s basically swept award seasons, and it’s likely that it will clean up at tonight’s Academy Awards. With Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone at the helm, it’s got undeniable charm and wit.

One of the saddest things in the film is the dismal audience turn out for Mia’s big acting debut in a her one-woman show. At first, this may just seem like typically fickle Hollywood, but amidst all the film’s whimsy and controversial musical status lies a cautionary tale about sending emails. A cautionary tale that explains exactly why her show bombed.

So, why did Mia’s show have such low attendance?

It seems she committed a few cardinal sins of email correspondence. For one, she sent her invitation as a a mass message. In her enthusiasm, it looks like she put all the names in the “to” section. She didn’t bother to BC anyone, which is a huge no-no when it comes to digital correspondence.

These kind of emails are often marked as spam in our inboxes. More often they are just plain out disregarded by the publicists, PR reps, editors, and critics that she desperately wanted to reach. Nobody likes to open spam.

Secondly, the body of the email wasn’t very well constructed and it was terribly uninformative. It has very little details about the show, aside from the fact that she wrote it herself.

As sad as this scene was to watch, it might have been Mia’s own fault. Aside from the failing relationship of the two main characters, this was the most gut-wrenching moment of the whole film. When the lights come on, and she notices what a dismal crowd is in attendance, our hearts broke into a million pieces.

Knowing that she could have avoided this moment makes it even more upsetting. Even starlets need to be tech savvy these days.
