Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers is taking major heat for a video posted online earlier this week where she openly mocked fellow Miss Universe contestants Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia.

The video, which was originally an Instagram Live, showed Summers, a Nebraska native, discussing her fellow contestants along with Miss Colombia Valeria Morales and Miss Australia Francesca Hung.

"What do you think of Miss Vietnam [H'Hen] Nie?" Summers asked the other girls during the video. "She's so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she goes [makes nodding gesture]." The other girls laughed along and called Nie "cute."

Later in the video, Summers brought up Miss Cambodia Rern Sinat, and referenced how she can't speak any English either. "Miss Cambodia is here and doesn't speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?" she asked. "Francesca said that would be so isolating and I said yes and just confusing all the time."

"Poor Cambodia," she added after the other two girls agreed with her.

The reaction to the video was swift. People in the comments quickly criticized Summers for her insensitivity. "And they want to represent the world? Heartless," one person wrote. "What an embarrassment," another commented.

Summers posted an Instagram this afternoon in lieu of an apology, writing that, "In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize."
