A woman has taken to the internet to share a story of kindness after a stranger offered her his first-class seat on a plane so her sick baby would feel more comfortable.

Kelsey Rae Zwick was flying from Orlando to Philadelphia with her 11-month-old daughter, Lucy when the flight attendant informed her that a fellow passenger was keen to switch seats.

Taking to Facebook in a now deleted post, the mum wrote an open letter to the stranger, thanking him for his kindness and urged others to share the sweet story.

“To the man in 2D,” she began her post. “Today you were travelling from Orlando to Philly. I don’t know you but I imagine you saw us somewhere.”

She went on to explain that she was travelling with a changing bag, a buggy and her daughter’s oxygen tank.

“We pre-boarded the plane, got cosy in our window seat and made jokes to those around us about having to sit by my yelling-but-happy baby,” the mum wrote.

“The flight attendant came over and told me you were waiting to switch seats. You were giving up your comfortable, first class seat to us.”

It was a gesture that moved the mum to tears, but made her daughter, who suffers from chronic lung disease, laugh as they walked to the front of the plane.

“Not able to hold back tears, I cried my way up the aisle while my daughter Lucy laughed!

“She felt it in her bones too… real, pure, goodness. I smiled and thanked you as we switched but didn’t get to thank you properly.

“Sooo… thank you,” she finished her post. “Not just for the seat itself but for noticing. For seeing us and realising that maybe things are not always easy.

“For deciding you wanted to show a random act of kindness to US. It reminded me how much good there is in this world.”

The mum, who has twin daughters, signed off by letting everyone know she would be paying it forward.

The stranger, who has now been named as Jason, an industrial engineer from Pennsylvania, told Mail Online that seeing the mum board the plane made him feel emotional.

“I was tearing up when I saw her,” he said.

“She had an oxygen machine for her daughter. It couldn’t be put over her head and she had to have it with her the whole time. It was so touching seeing the little girl with her oxygen.”

And Jason didn’t have to think twice about offering his spacious seat to the mum.

He added: “I expected to see her in the front since she had the oxygen machine with her but when I boarded she was in the back.

“So I asked the flight attendant if she thought the young lady with the baby would be more comfortable in my seat. I just hoped that she had a better flight with more room.”

This isn’t the only story of kindness to go viral recently. Back in October, a man who held a stranger’s sleeping baby while the young mother filled out paperwork in a doctor’s waiting room won the Internet for his touching act of kindness.

And in August people heaped praise on an Argentinian police officer after an image of her breastfeeding a neglected baby went viral.
