Sorry, swashbuckling archeology fans… the thus-far untitled fifth movie in the ‘Indiana Jones’ series has been delayed for a whole year.

Previously slated for July 2019, it’s now not going to be released until July 10, 2020.

That means that Harrison Ford will be nearly 78 – his birthday is July 13 – by the time the next movie comes around, a rather stately age to still be cracking a bullwhip.

Why the delay has occurred has not been disclosed, but Variety has suggested Steven Spielberg’s heavy schedule over the next couple of years as the most likely reason.

He has the ambitious sci-fi ‘Ready Player One’ currently in production, followed by a political drama about release of the Pentagon Papers starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

But despite Ford’s advancing years – he’s been playing the role since 1981 – Spielberg has previously said that there’s no chance of the actor being replaced.

“There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones, and that’s Harrison Ford. I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy,” he remarked to Screen International in 2015.

That is, of course, not to say that another actor could be brought as, say, an apprentice, and continue Indy’s excellent work.

But whatever the outcome, it’ll be 2020 by the time we find out.
