Iman Troye slammed for COVID-19 joke

25 May – Iman Troye, real name Siti Nur Iman Alyssa Sahabudin, recently found herself having to deactivate her Twitter account for a misplaced humour regarding the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The singer, most famous for her catchy song, "Teman", went online on 23 May following the latest report on the number of daily cases, and posted, "Happy 6.9k everyone! Congratulations! Hopefully we'll get 7k tomorrow."

She also added the hashtag #KerajaanGagal (Failed Government).

Though some saw the post as nothing more than a sarcastic response to the current situation, most blasted the singer for ignoring the sensitivity of others, especially those who have lost their loved ones to the coronavirus.

Others also decided to advise the singer to be more considerate when it comes to the issue. After much backlash, the singer not only deleted the tweet but deactivated her Twitter account as well.

However, her Instagram account is still intact.

Malaysia recorded the highest number of daily cases on 23 May, with 6,976 cases in total - with nearly 40 percent coming from Selangor.
