Chris Pine and Idris Elba Fight To Be Handsomest ‘Star Trek’ Captain in New Charity Video

Chris Pine has played Captain Kirk in the last two Star Trek movies, but he may have a new challenger: Idris Elba. In a new video for the charity initiative ‘Star Trek: To Boldly Go,’ the stars of Star Trek Beyond (in theaters July 8, 2016) fight for alpha-male status over one of its most iconic pop culture symbols: Captain Kirk’s chair. Things get a little tense with a disagreement over the teleprompter, and pretty soon, Elba decides that he’s taking over the Enterprise. Watch the video above.

Ultimately, all this bickering is for a good cause: ‘Star Trek: To Boldly Go’ is a philanthropic initiative to fund nine different charities. Fans can contribute and claim rewards at Omaze, while a lucky few will get to visit the set of the upcoming Star Trek film (the third in the relaunched series). Visit Omaze to learn more.

Idris Elba is a newcomer to the Star Trek universe, and his role still hasn’t been announced — though we doubt he’s actually the Enterprise crew’s new captain. In fact, this video would seem to be support speculation that Elba is the movie’s villain. Whatever he is, we hope it’s a juicy role — and preferably, one that involves breakdancing.
