The second night of the Democratic National Convention was an emotional one. We got a peek into the brotherly love that exists between Bernie and Larry Sanders, heard from some of the mothers of those we lost to police brutality and witnessed Hillary Clinton become the first woman presidential nominee in U.S history. How can there possibly be two more days left? The best thing about the second night was how empowering it felt. Witnessing Hillary achieve one of her biggest dreams while making history is a real tear-jerker. And that’s only one part of the evening tissues where required. Here’s a few more.

Hillary shattering the faces of 44 men presidents

Clinton made her first appearance at the DNC in the most bad-ass way possible: she shattered the faces of the 44 men that have run this country (thus easily creating the best gif of all time). Thinking about all the young women who watched this moment gives me chills. There are so many great examples of women leadership at the convention (and in entertainment this year) and it makes me so happy there are little girls out there that can finally see what’s possible for them. Clinton said it best, “If there are any little girls out there watching: I may become the first woman President, but one of you might be next.”

Missed opportunity for Hillary. I agree with Jared on this one.

Mothers of the Movement

Another powerful moment was seeing The Mothers of the Movement together onstage. “The Mothers of the Movement” are some of the mothers of those we’ve lost to police brutality over the last few years. They came together Tuesday evening to endorse Hillary Clinton and remind us to stay vigilant in the fight against injustice.

“We are going to keep telling our children’s stories. We are urging you to say their names. We’re going to keep building a future where police officers and communities of color work together in mutual respect to keep children like Jordan safe, ” said mother of Jordan Davis, Lucy McBath.

The Mothers of the Movement include: Sabrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin; Lucia McBath, the mother of Jordan Davis; Lezley McSpadden, mother of Mike Brown; Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, mother of Hadiya Pendleton; Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontré Hamilton; Geneva Reed-Veal, mother of Sandra Bland; Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner and Wanda Johnson, mother of Oscar Grant.

Alicia Keys Performance

Right before Hillary Clinton’s epic shattering of past presidents, Alicia Keys graced the stage and gave passionate performances of “Superwoman,” and her new song, “In Common.” During her performances, she called for unity against hate.”The way forward is with acceptance and love. Let’s acknowledge our differences and celebrate them,”she said.

Bill Clinton also shattering gender roles

I don’t know about you, but I am very excited about the very real possibility of having Bill Clinton as our First Gentleman. ( First Husband? First Man? Not sure what the proper term is, but also exciting one will need to be created!) Bill also made history last night as the first man to deliver a First Lady speech. Similar to many First Lady speeches, Bill spent his time on stage talking about his love for his spouse and why she is the perfect candidate for president.

Can’t wait to see what night three holds.
